Joel King — Australian publisher, founder and media executive

"From Sydney's independent music scene to the boardrooms of Australia's largest music media companies."

About

Joel King began his career as a musician in Sydney's independent music scene before founding Music Feeds in 2008. What started as a passion project grew into one of Australia's largest independent music publications, covering Australian and international artists across editorial, video and live content.

In 2013, Joel established Music Feeds Studio — a recording and content production facility in Sydney that hosted Australian and international artists for sessions, interviews and live recordings. The following year, Music Feeds was acquired by Evolve Media, a global digital media company. Joel remained with the business and was promoted to Managing Director of Evolve Media Australia in January 2017.

In 2020, Joel joined The Brag Media, one of Australia's leading music and entertainment media companies. He was promoted to Chief Operating Officer, playing a leadership role in the expansion of Rolling Stone Australia, Variety Australia, commercial publishing operations and events. Following Vinyl Group's acquisition of The Brag Media in 2024, the business was restructured as Vinyl Media, a division of Vinyl Group. Joel remained with the company as Interim General Manager of Vinyl Media while also serving as Chief Operating Officer of Vinyl Group. He currently serves as an advisor to the CEO of Vinyl Group.

In 2025, Joel acquired and relaunched Blunt Magazine — an Australian alternative culture publication covering music, entertainment, youth culture, gaming and emerging cultural trends — as owner and publisher. Alongside his publishing and media work, King has maintained a long-standing involvement in music, recording and creative projects through Deerubbin Studio, established in 2019.
